  • Residential houses on Forest Land to be regularized by Karnataka Govt

    By Machu | February 12, 2010

The State Govt is contemplating to “regularize” residential houses built on forest land in the Malnad region.
In short, “encroachment shall be legalized in the forest land”.
Coorg itself forms a part of the Malnad region and the catchment for River Cauvery.
It came as a surprise when the primary and secondary education minister Mr.Visveshwara Hegde Kageri broke the news today.
Agreeing that majority of the land in Malnad region is forest land, he further stated that only coordiation among the various
govt departments can make the process smooth.
The Forests of Coorg is already boring the brunt of illegal settlements in forest land, timer mafia, etc.
This move will surely make matters worst for Karnataka’s last frontier forests.
